I suspect Bon Ami isn't an abrasive, but something soluble, or at least very 
soft. 
And I have a specific idea of what polishing is, and no doubt, that's the 
curse of working in that field. <G>

they said to use "Bar Keepers Friend" to clean the windshield first. I'm 
assuming it is a  lot like "Bon Ami"? It is a light powder that goes 
everywhere, but it does seem to clean glass without harm.
