>Bruce, I can fix that! First, let's get something straight. Porsche/VW only marketed the 914 as a Porsche
in the U.S. In Europe, they wore a Volkswagen label. They were simply the replacement for the Karmann
Ghia. So go ahead, do it honors by giving it Corvair power.

Actually, I'd offer that upgrading a 356 or a 912 with Corvair power would give it "honors" as well... and
even the Porsche community sees those as "real Porsches" even though they are inferior to the lowly 914.

The 914 was a great little car (even though I didn't personally care for mine) and in 914-6 form was a better
performer than the much more pricey 911... which is why they didn't encourage 914-6 sales nor give it
better brakes, etc.

Jump forward a few years and you see the same issue with the late 80's 944 Turbo S. Even detuned to be
less competitive, it does _everything_ better than the concurrent 911 at a fraction of the price. Even today
the Boxster S was giving the 911 fits... so instead of continuing to improve it, they went full bore on the
arguably inferior 911 platform.

Gotta protect those "golden idols"!
