<VV> Intermittent Crank Jam?

I've received several excellent responses exemplified by the one below, to
my question. But they were NOT posted! No WONDER we on VV see such a dearth
of solid discussion of the workings of CORVAIRS.
Thanks to everyone who's replied so far, and if you're thinking of
replying, do POST your reply. This is the GOOD stuff!
In answer to a question posed by several people: I AM able to turn the
crank two turns clockwise as viewed from behind the car (by the fan belt and
with the plugs in, no less!). The problem APPEARS to be directional, but
that may be only because under power, the crankshaft only rotates in one
direction.
Chuck Sadek's suggestion of something in the bell housing, perhaps at
the bottom, has my thinking currently. Perhaps bottom bolt
had a washer under it, and got backed out by the flywheel. I think I've got
washers under the bottom bolts on MY OWN Corvair, but apparently, I've been
lucky.

Can it be turned over with a wrench on the harmonic balancer?
