  I was well aware of the Porsche/VW labeling.  I recall going to Porsche 
shows during the mid 70's in my buddy's '72, 1.7 litre.  You might as well have 
showed up driving a VW Thing and tried passing it off as a Porsche.  None the 
less, he loved the car and he sold me on their ability to handle even if the 
engine seemed to run outta breath long before any limits were met.  And the 
breakdowns!  After 2 Bosch computer box failures he began thinking my lame 
suggestion of a Corvair engine transplant wasn't such a bad idea.  I'll never forget 
the one ocassion when the car stranded us...totally frustrated my buddy yanked 
out a small tree by the roots and began thrashing the car ala Basil Fawlty 
style.  
  Anyhow, the whole idea of the engine swap is still in it's pipe dream stage 
(don't ask what pipe I'm smoking) but so far it sounds like a doable thing.  
If things materialize I'll keep you posted.
