There is no doubt that chassis dynos are a valuable tool, especially for 
tuning and adjusting an engine for optimum performance. But when someone wants to 
try different engine modifications that may require partial (or even total) 
disassembly of the engine to implement these mods, a chassis dyno just doesn't 
cut it. That is for two main reasons. They are: The difficulty in making engine 
mods while the engine is still in the car, and the variable losses involved 
in measuring engine torque and power thru the transmission, differential, 
tires, and adhesion to the dyno. So therefore an engine dyno is best suited to 
testing different engine mods.
