<VV> Starter woes

Anyone with experience in a starter that turns slow.......never gets
hot.......cables are 6ga. / clean new 2 ft long! ..good ground [ appears ]

AND did not increase in speed when hit with 24 volts?....didn't get hot
either???

I've actually tried 2 units [ cleaned and inspected before use].....and the
only "common" part is the nose bushing....this is a VW / Corvair..that's been
doing this for 12 yrs!...both starters turn other engines just fine....and the
engine is not tight..but has heavy valve springs and 10 to 1 CR.

I am ready to read the field coils......

and check the bushing [requires engine removal].
This is a 'transaxle that was originally a 6 volt, which requires the "offset
bushing"when using a 12 volt VW starter - 127 tooth flywheel].......which, if
bad, would mean the starter motor is "dragging" [ no visible signs on the
unit in the buggy the last 12 years].

Thanks in advance
