<VV> rear quarter panel replacement

I am getting ready to replace the right rear quarter panel on my 1965 Monza
coupe, and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on this. I'm fairly new
to bodywork, and while I've had good success welding in new floorboards and
several other patch panels, I have never attempted anything as complex as a
quarter panel replacement. I think I've got the welding part down, but I'm
concerned with questions like

1) What measurements (if any) should I make before taking the old QP off?

2) Do I need to add some kind of support at the rear of the car to hold
things up, or is the rest of the body stiff enough to hold things in place
once the QP is removed?

3) If I weld the new QP exactly as the old one was, can I expect any
problems like the door or engine lid not fitting right?

4) Any unusual challenges that I'm not thinking of, including the actual
welding part?

Thanks,
