Mark-
I didn't see a "public" answer to your question so here goes:
As I remember the '69 Camaro seats are virtually identical to '69 Corvair
seats. I can't compare right now as my '69 Camaro and Corvair are in
Virginia and I'm in NJ.
The problem is that I believe GM changed the Corvair floor mounts to use the
Camaro seats in '68-'69. That means your floor doesn't have the holes/studs
in the correct places for the later seats. Remember the Camaro seats are
narrower than your original '66 seats and mount closer to the center of the
car.
IMHO I wouldn't use the Camaro seats. I don't have the houndstooth inserts,
in my '69. I have the "standard" interior, which is all vinyl. I put over
106,000 miles on my Camaro and I would not use its seats to replace '66
Corvair seats. The Camaro seats are not as well padded as the Vair's and
certainly not as comfortable on a long ride. If you can afford them I would
go with the Recaros and sell the Camaro seats to a restorer.
                                           Ed
