Wow!  My car only throws a belt a distance of a few feet at most!! (LOL)

One a belt has been thrown it is usually stretched and will not stay on
anymore, so it is best to always s install a new belt.

But to answer your question, you have a bad cutout relay in your voltage
regulator and that is why the generator kept running.  You need to get a
good working regulator.
