Let me preface by saying that I don't play in concours as I prefer a car to
a museum piece -- not a shot to anyone who does, just my opinion -- and as
such I am not too familiar with concours as a whole.
That said, I agree with your position in that you essentially added a
factory option (trim line) in factory form, whether or not the factory ever
built such a vehicle. I am sure many people have added factory options that
were not originally part of the car, acquiring the parts to do so from cars
of different model years, and competed as "street stock" without incident in
compliance with the rules. IMO as long as it was built with factory (or
close reproduction) parts in factory locations it is "stock", just as
reflected in the CORSA rules for "Street Stock", and as you said you have
done.
In spite of my opinion, the catch as I see it is in the CORSA definition of
"Modifications", from the March 1997 rules, being "...any changes made to a
regular production vehicle that alter it from the way it *could* have left
the factory" (emphasis added). I imagine someone has, at some time, built a
car with a combination of options that the factory never did, but it *could*
have been built. The fact that no '69 *could* have left the factory in
Corsa trim (as it wasn't offered) makes it modified by rule regardless of
how stock it is. While this is apparently contradicted, at least in your
case, by the specifics of the Class 2 definitions it does become an
interpretation issue. I hope you succeed in your fight as I agree with you,
but I can see both sides and in the end the only interpretation that matters
is that of the person running the show.
