I switched the heads out last weekend and this weekend have the 4 door back on the road.

I found a bunch of paper towels stuck on the heads and cylinders. It has never overheated on me (luckily). Three of the top studs were also loose. Man, I am suprised it ran as well as it did.

I also cleaned out the 4 row cooler it was absolutely filled with crud. I found a nice and mild degreaser. Oxy clean and hot water. I let it soak for a few hours and hit it with a wire brush and could see light through the fins. So I tried it on another 4 row I had that I couldn't get clean with harsher stuff and it worked well there too.

I ran it around and found that it runs a lot smoother that before the sputter at the the top of the gears is completely gone.

I have been borrowing a nice New Yorker with all the trimmings and I have to say that I was really missing driving my Corvair. The New Yorker is cleaner, quieter, and faster, it just didn't have the personality.
