<VV> Back from Lexington

Hi All,
It was a very fun and unusual National convention for me. First, it was
the first one I have attended without a car. Second, it was the first one
I have attended in my new position as a Corsa Regional Director. But,
since it is my responsibility to attend, I was up to the task, even without
a car. I decided to fly into Louisville and drive to Lexington, since the
air fare was a lot less that way from Sacramento, CA. Since I did not need
a car for most of the time, I dropped it off the day after I arrived and
after I drove it to the drag races. I was only able to attend near the
finish, since I missed the Mountain Parkway turnoff, by just a little ...
about 60 MILES! But I was told that about three people last year did the
same thing. Once you determine you "might" have missed it, there was about
20 miles of nothing but nice rolling green hills and an occasional rest stop.

The weather was actually pretty accommodating for the week. It had been
threatening with clouds passing by every day and even a misting once or
twice daily, but the only rain during the day was Thursday about 5:30 or
so. So most of the events were not disturbed by the weather. But through
the week, the forecast went from 40 percent to 60 percent
rain. Interestingly, KY had some major flooding in the eastern part.

I attended the Corsa BOD meeting for the first time. It was interesting to
listen to the convention bids and the voting process. It is actually
pretty difficult to make these decisions. There are always plusses and
minuses for every location and the clubs are always quite different. After
a lot of discussion, the 2007 site was selected as Detroit --
Motown. Sarah Jones announced this later in the week.

Since this was the first Eastern CORSA convention I attended, I was able to
meet some people I had communicated with for years but not met them nor
viewed their cars. I met daChuckster and his Darth Vair as well as Rick
Norris and his beautiful V-8. I had time to talk with both and Rick showed
me some of the construction details for my future reference. I met a ton
of other people there and had some great discussions but did miss getting
to talk with several, upon reflection on my return.

Without a car for the return, I was only able to purchase some smaller
items. No diffs or cylinder heads for this convention. But I was able to
purchase an entire new interior and it will be shipped to me -- some
assembly required! So the 65 Monza vert will start looking more like a car
and less like a project soon.

The raffle car was incredible. The attention to detail was amazing. No
wonder it sold so well in the auction. It was certainly worth the final bid.

With Father's Day this weekend, I needed to return early, so I missed the
Autocross and banquet. Before leaving, I got to bed at the equivalent of 9
PM Pacific and needed to get up at the equivalent of Midnight to catch my
early AM flight Friday. I was pretty pooped Friday evening after driving
200 miles in the 65 Monza vert. to pick up my son for the weekend.

After being inspired at the convention, I now need to start working on the
Devin C to get it in running condition for the autocross in Portland next
year. I doubt it will be improved much cosmetically, but at least it
should be fun driving it.
