many years ago i made a quick shifter conversion in my 64 spyder convert. i
originally did it because i had an extra ham radio hanging under the dash. now
i had so much fun with it i had to go a notch better. i had parted out many
cars so i played with housings out of 3spds (taller) and moving the shift lever
in the ball.(i think it started because the add on pin came loose in the kit
unit) it worked very well.
next car i put the kit in i put gray epoxy in the add on pin just before i
tightened the heck out of the allen screws. i then cut the shift lever off to
less than 12 inches and epoxied a walnut knob on it. boy was that one fun to
drive! heck most of the time you dont need a clutch. it is now in a "race car"
owned by another club member, i got older and lazier so all vehicles are
powerglides. late fc's are really great with this conversion also. i just used the
taller 3spd housing. regards tim colson
