<VV> Tires

I bought the correct size whitewalls from Diamond Back Classics. They were expensive. I would suggest the Yokohama Aegis LS4 or Uniroyal Tiger Paw. Sears has the first tire. Both tires did well in tests by Consumer Reports. They both offer whitewalls. If performance is valued over style go Michelin.

> Aren't we forgetting the other half of the equation? How high you need to get the rear of the car depends on how low you can get the engine. An engine balanced on a 2x6 on a floor jack might ride lower than an engine on an ATV jack with a Finch cart attached. When I took the engine out of Christine, I used an ATV jack with a modified Finch cart made out of 2x4s. The rear of the car was supported on 4 ton jack stands set as high as they could go. I just barely had room to get the engine out from under the body. The carburetors and alternator were still on the engine; removing them would have helped.
>
> And while we're on the subject of removing engines, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the membership of VV for all the support and advice during my recent engine removal adventure. Changing tires and oil had been the extent of my mechanical experience, but with the help of VV, I was able to fix a major ATF leak at the stator and get Christine on the road again. Special thanks go out to Larry Forman and Rick Norris for suggesting the ATV lift, Keith Hammett for suggesting Dremel bit 7134 to remove a broken bolt extractor, Corvair Underground for the good used stator shaft, Tony Kruzich for the labor to put the stator shaft in the differential, and Chuck Armer for coming by and helping me get the engine back in the car. And to all the others too numerous to mention, THANKS!!! I couldn't have done it without you.

Use a few razors and then you can cut the old gasket and use a new one when putting it back in. It's not a bad idea to replace it anyway since you don't want to do it again. there are quite a few tricks to do the install. I use the wire method to pull the gasket in.
>
> Run THIN wire or cord around the lip of the gasket. Lay the window in the opening and then pull the wire out inside the car. This will tweak the lip and help it pop in. Not a bad idea to get a couple sets of hands to help out. One person can do this it just isnt advisible. I also use a soapy water solution to help make it slippery. It's kinda like what they do with car tires.
