Hi all...thanks for all the suggestions! The overwhelming response was:
1) my problem is not my throwout bearing, but my flywheel. Everyone
recommended I go with the Dale unit, so I will. I will also replace the
rest of the assembly while I am at it (clutch, pp, throwout bearing,
pilot bushing)...not that I am trying to spend more money...but as some
of you pointed out...every part has the same number of miles and wear and
tear. I will order the flywheel straight from Dale Mfg. I guess...now to
see which vendor has a good clutch kit. 2) Chirping: not enough
information to draw any conclusions,. Had guesses from a blown head
gasket to u-joints. No one giving any kind of firm guess, though. I am
hoping when I do the other work, this symptom will magically disappear!
3) M/C...varied opinions on this one...most of you suggested switching
out to a dual m/c for safety reasons (I have enjoyed the thread that grew
out of that one). I will go ahead and switch out the old unit for a dual
m/c and will check all lines. If they are original they will get
replaced too...I know the PO did some brake work (new pads).

It looks I will be beginning the work a month or so before I planned. My
clutch cable snapped on me about two miles from my house yesterday. I
had to drive the remaining two miles in second gear through stop signs
and lights...had to cut through one parking lot and almost took out a
pedestrian! She was walking slowly and I couldn't bog the engine any
slower! I am sure she thought I was an impatient rude driver...but I
wasn't going to the let the car die that close to home! I remember from
a previous thread (I am pretty sure it was in VV) that the ELM (early
late models :) were prone to snapped clutch cables and that I should
replace it with a '69 cable...so I will have to do some shopping
around...

Thanks all for your replies and offers to answer questions (I will be
emailing some of you off list with my "dumber" questions)...
