i usae engine paint from napa #de1635 it is almost perfect semi gloss sheen.
if you go to heavy a coat it may get a touch too shiney. the original shrouds
etc i think were dipped in some solution not really called paint. i remember
discussing this with someone at a national years ago that worked at the
factory. that why there are runs and heavy spots on some of the original parts.
brake pull might be because cylinders have sludge in them, have they all been
rebuilt or replaced? i always do the brake system comepletely over when i
get a car , even if it seems to have been done. conventional fluid forms a
sludge causing brake pull and other unsafe conditions. sometimes drums can cause
funny pulls also, even after turning. try swapping drums from side to side to
see if the pull swaps, if it does try turning at a different cut rate on the
lathe(finer). i like a coarse cut to stop better with less noise but sometimes
it bites me back. also the shoes should be contour cut to fit the drums. also
i chamfer the leading edge of all shoes with a belt sander before putting them
on.
i find a belt sander(cheapie from harbor freight) almost indespensible in the
shop..flatten many surfaces, repair burrs on parts better than a grinder.
