Snip----------------------------
Ok an email to Clarks tech assistance brought this response. "Doesn't
sound like a lifter problem but rather an issue with valve train geometry"
Unsnip--------------------------

I just received a set of re-worked 140 heads from Ray Sedman at American-Pi.
Excellent work and my car is finally back on the road after a four month
hiatus. If you need work done to heads, I'd recommend him.

Anyhow, I noticed on my car that there was more valve-train noise than I am
accustomed to...not real loud, but I can notice it. I asked Ray if the deep
seats would cause a change in the sound, and he said no. His diagnosis was
also valve train geometry and it makes sense. The heads had the gasket step
removed, which increases compression a little, and reduces the tendency to
knock. However, this places the valves, etc ever so slightly closer to the
engine. As a result, my stock push rods are a few thousandths of an inch
longer than they should be, and this messes up my geometry. My plan is to
(with Ray's guidance), determine what length pushrods I need and get a set.
The car runs great and lifters are quiet (cold valve adjust). I think the
only downside of not correcting the geometry is increased noise and possibly
increased wear on the valve train. If I've stated anything wrong here, I
hope someone corrects me.
