<VV> RE: [fastvair] Mini Convention

I'll weigh in on this one, just a bit.

My first reaction when I heard about the Iowa Mini was disappointment. I've had to wait six years for various reasons to get the chance to go to my first convention. The thought that some of the people and 'vairs I'd waited so long to meet and see might be "drawn off" by something closer to their home, instead of Portland, caused a bit of a knee jerk reaction in me.

Heck, the WCC email list is currently buzzing with folks discussing Portland. For those of you that do make it to Portland I think you'll be surprised to see some interesting 'vairs. It's amazing what some isolation will do to a 'vair owner, with no preconceived notions of what can and cannot, or should or should not be done people can get a little creative. (Have at 'er TLH<g>)

But after lowering my knee and taking a few minutes to reflect on things I realized that one of the primary reasons I've missed my first five opportunities to attend a convention has been distance (and a couple of demanding jobs); who am I to discourage the idea of a Mini in Iowa for the very same reasons? To all that attend Iowa, I hope you have a great time. And for those of you that make the effort to come out to Portland, I look forward to meeting you. And please be prepared for a group of crazy canucks who've built up a tolerance for the simple treatments we're able to prescribe at Corvairitis Treatment Day, and now require much stronger medicine, in the form of the Portland 2005 Nats!

"Iowa got screwed on their bid for the Convention anyhow"

To be ignorant is understandable - to choose it, perplexing.

Detroit, Michigan, was the correct choice of the Board for the 2007
Convention.
Iowa will have a fine Mini next year. Portland was the best choice for 2005
and it will be a fine convention as well, especially nice for the large number
of Corsa members who cannot make the trek to the east coast because of "the
cost factor". Kinda sound familiar? - Seth Emerson
