The problem with cleaning engine lid insulations is that the process usually
makes it more friable (loosens up the material so the pieces start to fall on
your engine). I have only done this once and the effort was rewarded, but it
was a long time ago BC (before children) so I was able to take a whole
afternoon.
1. Place the insulation face (dirty side) down on some plastic and plywood
(to protect the floor, driveway, grass or whatever you're doing this on). 2.
Soak the the pad with a grease cutter. I used Dupont (now Simonize I think)
No 7 car wash fortified with Mr. Clean at the time. I would probably use
something like Simple Green today though the No 7 Car Wash did a great job. 3.
After about 30 minutes of soaking I used a pump up garden sprayer with very warm
water to soak the top of the cover. You are trying to reverse the process
that built up the grease by flushing it back out. 4. Lift a side from time to
time to see how it is going are where heavy concentrations might still remain
then concentrate just on that area. 4. Repeat as necessary to your own
standards until you think it is clean enough then give it one last soaking with
fresh, clean water (don't blast it--your trying to resurrect a pad not creat
lumps of trash that happen to be clean) and let air dry. If you have treated the
material as gently as possible it should still be perfectly serviceable.

Hi everyone
We taking off our engine lid insulation so the lid can be painted. It is

Thanks in advance
