There is no reason you couldn't "Bench Bleed" a master cylinder in the car.  
You would have to be careful about the installed lines (not bend them  
incorrectly). But if you install the proper lines back into the reservoir it  will 
work. You would have to get back into the car to pump the pedal. But on the  
bench you can watch the fluid and watch for bubbles in the fluid, etc.  Since 
there is almost no pressure built up you can easily push the plunger in  with an 
engine pushrod. - Seth Emerson
