try squirting blaster thru a tube(like the carb clean tubes) into the door 
latch area from the window and the latch itself.  soak it good ,then tap on the 
button until you feel it moving the mechanism instead of just the button 
itself. what usually happens is the latch paddle that the outside button hits 
sticks in stopping anything from moving further. once you get it open take it apart 
and soak it (oil, cosmoline or something good fer rust)and free up all moving 
parts.   do not beat on the button ....         regards, tim colson
