In the August Issue of Automotive Industries Magazine, there is an article  
on a new BMW Turbo-diesel 3.0 Liter inline 6-cylinder motor. It uses two  t
urbo-chargers, but neither in the side-by-side set-up like the 300ZX or the  
compound, in-line, version like the 3rd gen RX-7. Instead it uses them in  parallel 
(sort-of). A small turbo to boost at low revs with intake air  pulled through 
the larger turbo (it's exhaust side operating but not very  effective, since 
the exhaust gas has already gone through the small turbo.) At  mid-range, the 
exhaust goes through both turbos, though some exhaust gas  bypasses the 
smaller turbo and goes to the bigger one. Eventually only the large  turbo is 
operating, and the small turbo is bypassed. The engine puts out 268 HP  from 183 
cubes, (and 391 lb.ft or torque) and the torque curve is flat from  1500 RPM to 
5500 RPM - A high RPM for a diesel. The AI article  has some schematics and
