snip>I've never heard of oil comsumption going DOWN after switching to
synthetic, but I have heard of it
going up. Will be interested to hear your experience as you pile on more
miles.

Bill et al,
When we first purchased the 1964 Monza 110 convertible back in 1990, it use a
quart of oil every 450-500 miles....It had 81,000 miles on it (we bought from
the first owner), and had never been touched other than reseal with
viton...we switched to 10W30 Mobil 1 and oil consumption went to about 700-750 miles
between quarts, and then since we primarily drove it in the summer and were
living in North Carolina, we switched to the 15W50, and the oil would consume at a
rate of 900-1000 miles between adding quarts. Not a wonderful thing, but
the engine never consumed any more oil as we drove it past 110,000 miles before
we sold it...We normally changed the oil once a year with a new AC filter, as
we were adding a quart every 1000 or so and driving around 3500-5000 miles per
year, depending on events, etc... I have always run synthetic in the 65 110
PG car with A/C, as it has an even heavier heat load in the summer....That car
also would use less oil on synthetic than it did when we first got it, but it
consumed a lot less anyway as it still only has 62,000 miles today.
