Joel,
I'm 38. Last year my clubs (Central KY & Derby City Corvair) hosted the
convention in Lexington. I say "clubs" because I'm a member of both (and when
people ask how many members did it take to host a convention, and they get the
membership totals from the club roster, they normally don't consider how many
people are counted twice, as I was)... I took a week off without pay, so I could
help out at the convention, and I HAD A BROKEN LEG IN A CAST!!! I'm not looking
for sympathy (my Dad said if you're looking for sympathy you can always find
it between sh!t & syphilis in the dictionary), I'm just trying to say I'm with
you 100% when you say going to the convention is worth it... I even headed up
the camping at the campground, and there were a lot of tent campers, which I
understand aren't allowed at the RV campground the hosting clubs chose. Thats
a pity, but ya gotta take what you can get.
Sad to say, I will not be able to make the convention, as I've been off work
since February 15th with the leg (still in a cast, only this time there are
bunches of metal and string in it now)... we had planned on flying out with my
in-laws (I've been blessed by my wife's parents more than they will ever
realize) and for two weeks working our way down the coast far enough to see the
sequoias and up to see Seattle, working in a day or so at the convention, and
camping out along the way, much like when we drove to Maine and spent 2 weeks away
from home... but this damn leg has spoiled those plans... even if I started
back to work tomorrow they (my employer) wouldn't let me take a week, let alone
two weeks, off to roam the country... oh well, "Stuff Happens".
I hope you guys have a blast Joel... I really wanted to go to McMinville
(sp?) and see the Spruce Goose... maybe in the next few years...
Later,
Lonzo
