There is an article in the August 1994 Communique on this engine.  It is
a modified 3 cylinder Corvair engine.  He also experimented with variable
compression.  A few years ago, SAAB introduced a variable compression
engine.  I don't know if they still use it, but it was advertised quite
heavily when introduced.
