We took a self organized Jet Boat Tour of the river.  "Yes", it does
actually get that high.  At least twice in the last 50 years (the last in
'96) the water has been right up near the top of those posts.  Judging by
water marks on the posts I saw, average looks to be 3-4 feet.

The river is tidal near its mouth with the Pacific, but also experiences
great changes in depths depending on the season.  I do no know if it ever
gets as high as the poles would indicate.
