<VV> RE: Communique article rejection

I just wanted to chime in a little on the http://
www.virtualcorvairclub.com/ issue.

1. We need young blood and younger owners in order to keep CORSA
going strong.
2. VV does not have a searchable archive. I run a few mailman
mailing lists, and know what a pain it is to recompile and add the
search option to the mailing list program.
3. A well publicized and properly documented search engine could cut
down on the repeat messages on VV (which adds frustration to those in
the know) and turns off the timid new user who may be asking a pre-
purchase question, or someone who was just ultra cautious about
making a repair for the first time. We've all seen "it's in the tech-
guide" or "go buy the Corvair basics manual" as an answer.
4. The "New Look" of the Communique should go further than just a
nicer looking font - we should be welcoming new "free" resources.
5. I work for a public library system that offers free Internet
access to anyone with a library card. I know from talking to
technical support people in the 56 libraries in Suffolk County, NY
that one of our largest user base on the public computers are Senior
Citizens. As the age of our current members grows, it is possible
that older members that can use a free Internet connection at a
library would find this tool useful. We can attract the younger
crowd and support our older members with this tool at the same time.

Joe, I haven't read your article, but I think you're doing a
wonderful job of supporting the Corvair community. Getting the word
out through the Communique seems to be a natural progression. I
think it would be short sighted to reject an article based on what
the perceived user base does or does not know. I know that there are
many times that I skip through a bunch of what's printed because it
doesn't appeal to me. The amount of ink wasted about complaining
about Phoenix Charlie in the Open Forums could've been used on a list
of on-line resources ;)

Lon (if you're still reading) - thanks for keeping up on the list. I
haven't pestered you with a question (yet), and I agree with you that
the perception is that "information" is free. There is usually no
thought to the amount of time spent on obtaining that information.

Anything I can do to help out computer wise, please let me know.
I've taken some Corvair knowledge from the community and would like
to pay back somehow.
