<VV> Was: "cooling system" now computer/fi vs carbs /no computer

That's why I was working on an 'almost' bolt-on EFI system for
Corvairs. Using two 1-bbl Rochester TBI-300 units (or the newer TBI-700)
and an ECM from a V6 it looked like this could be (relatively) easily
adapted to a Corvair.

It would give maybe 90% of the benefits of port injection with a lot less
work since nothing had to be removed from the engine to install the system
(except for an electronic distributor, which could be a Pertonic).

So what happened? I sold my remaining Corvair before I found the time to
put the EFI system together. TBI units mostly disappeared by the late
80's, I don't know if the parts could be found today. I see a lot of the
2-bbl stuff on eBay but no one may have saved any of the the grocery-getter
1-bbl.

But don't forget, these newer cars have computer controls for
everything and fuel injection. I don't believe you'll ever match their
performance with a carbureted Corvair without a computer to keep
everything running efficiently and fuel injection to meter the fuel
precisely.
