I just removed the heads from a turbo engine of unknown origin but very
rusty where ever it lived. All but a few of the upper studs unscrewed. The
exposed ends had no threads left and very little stud! None are reusable.
However I have experience with Timeserts.
Also, three of the large sheet metal shroud bolts broke off flush plus the
head temp snap switch "snapped" off. In the process of drilling the bolts
out I broke a 1/8" bit off deep in the bolt. I bought a set of special bits
from Eastwood designed for drilling out broken Easy outs, drill bits etc.
They work very well but as the instructions say, it needs to be used in a
drill press where you can apply lots of pressure and run at a low RPM. I
tried it by hand and had no success. The drill press (a Crapsman) worked.
Fixturing the head to hold it vertically on the table is a challenge. T-nuts
and long bolts are the ticket.
