You might want to ask Smitty how much he paid for gas going out to Portland
and back, towing his trailer.

Bill
I don't know how Smitty did but I can tell you how we did with our Tacoma
pickup towing
the sound equip trailer from San Berdoo to Portland and back.

I keep pretty close tabs on fuel usage in all my vehicles.

We normally get, in all around driving, not pulling a trailer, around 21 MPG
with this truck.

It's a 2.4 litre 4 banger.

On this trip we went 2132 miles and got 17.452 MPG.

Not great considering the price of gas but better than I had expected. I had
figured it would
be closer to 15 MPG.

In 1965 I had an Apache pop-up camper that I pulled with my '62 Monza 102
4Sp. I would
consistently get around 20 MPG pulling it all over the midwest and Canada.
This was during
the time of 30 cent premium gas and I still tracked it. Must be anal about
it. The trailer
weighed in around 1300# packed and the car usually had 3 or 4 great
pretenders (fishermen)
going to catch our limit of bottle bass.

Those WERE the days.

BTW - I'll never forget the guy who rear ended me in Chicago with a '65
Impala when the
hitch went through his radiator. He asked me why I drove around with
something so
dangerous attched to my car. My answer... "revenge."

This brings up a question...

What is the sensible towing weight limit of a Corvair.

I know it would vary by engine but I am planning a late model 95HP with PG in
my 61
Lakewood.

Anybody have an opinion about towing capacity.

Yes, I do have a class one hitch for it.

Thanks
