<VV> powerglide leak

Well, here we go again. I seem to be running into small problems since I finally was able to get my 1966 monza on the road after two years of tearing her down and putting her back together again. I never anticipated having to do as much as I did, but it was definetly a learning experience. The problem I am having now is the powerglide trans. seems to be leaking from the shifting shaft on the left side. Is there a way to fix this w/o pulling the trans? Also, how is the rubber seal replaced around the engine? I see a lot of staples but I am not sure how a new one goes back on since my car did not have one when I bought it. Thanks to all who have answered my questions and pleas for parts over the years. I do not think I would have gotten as far as I have w/o your help!
