Dude, I can barely keep up with reading the content  - you think I'm going to read the footer too??  :)

IF it was a setting on my end, why do the overwhelming majority of messages not scroll out across the screen?

We send out plain text only, this is almost certainly a setting on your 
e-mail client.  Please direct list functionality and administrative 
questions to the help address in the footer of every VV post and 
digest.
