Well, I've never had any problems without the lower shrouds. By the way, air 
cooled 911s don't have them either, and no thermostat.

Tim, I would say that it is OK, depending on the temperature extremes you 
might encounter while doing so. My concern would be starting the engine at 
temps 
below, say, 60 degrees F. The slow or non-existent warm up is the problem, in 
my opinion.
