<VV> Corsa Temp wire placement

I was looking at my Corsa today trying to figure out why my temp. Gauge
hasn't been working. Didn't put much time into it, had a second so I
thought I'd take a peek at the wiring. It was working, than stopped. The
wire on the left side of the motor (driver side) has been spliced and it
is actually running down through a spark plug hole in the shroud. It is
pinched between the spark plug boot and shroud. My question is, where
should the wire be routed? Back through the grommet in the firewall and
than to the sensor?
