A couple of guys up here have taken to using a sealer on the car before the
mud and primer go on. The idea being that bondo absorbs moisture and they
want to put a barrier between it and the metal.

Comments?

The pro's paint the bare metal with self-etching urethane (catalyzed) primer
and then apply whatever filler is needed. The filler is porous as is the
older style lacquer primer. Long lasting repairs result from keeping away
the moisture. Filler should never be thick. It's purpose is not to fill
big dents or voids, but to smooth out the surface from small remaining
imperfections after craftsmanship like repairs are completed. After the
polyester filler.....then high fill urethane primer and final sand.....then
urethane primer sealer (non-sanding).....and then topcoat.
