Bob,

First make sure that there are no "kinks" when it is partially folded (when 
you first "pop the top").

Then place something thin but soft across it so that the top doesn't rub the 
window.

The best thing of course is to put it down and leave it down forever.

Even in Southern California that may not work all the time, but it's what 
I'd do !

I'm sure there are other tricks, but I had to add my 2-cents worth !
