<VV> Headlight confusion

Actually, I bought the car in boxes so I didn't take it apart myself. 
Both buckets appear to be original installation (all the holes line up) 
and both backing plates are correct for the 'right side' type bucket 
(mirror image, of course). It's the left side bucket that is 
'precocious'. Or WAS precocious, a clever application of vice grips and 
metal fatigue has resolved this issue.

I figure the 'six tab' bucket is 66 style as it doesn't match my '65 
assembly manual. Of course my car is Canadian and my manual is US so 
who knows which is correct as original for this car?
