snip--
I am getting ready to paint my 1966 Monza coupe and am thinking of doing it myself. I have done all the bodywork and do not plan on stripping the original paint. My question is what should I sand the body with grit wise and do I need to primer it afterwards.Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Unsnip--

What grit you sand to will is only to be determined by how good you want the paint to look.

For a daily driver, you can get by sanding, before primer to 220. Then apply your primer/sealer and start blocking.

You can block to 220 pretty easily, depending on what high or low spots you find. I personally like to sand to at least a 600 wet sand, if not to 1000 wet.

PLEASE make sure you wipe down the finished product, before paint with a good wax and oil remover (3M is my favorite) and then do it again. Make sure finally that your surface and surroundings are as dust free as possible. Make sure you have a dryer in line for your gun unless you want excess moisture in your air/paint.

Have fun and dont be afraid to ask questions at your local auto paint store.

Just my $.02 worth. Your mileage may vary.
