Ehh...  not really.   ;)    ...There are a couple of '60 Vairs here,

Yep.   The heater requires gasoline under pressure and it relies on the 
engine fuel pump.   With an electric pump, the heater will run without the 
engine running, but I'm not so sure I'd want an electric pump that *would* 
operate unless the engine was indeed running... oil pressure snapswitch or 
similar controlling the pump etc.
