Hey All, It's amazing that the daughter discussion on first cars led someone
to suggest a slant six Mopar product as a possible solution. Ted Fahrenthold
had just told me on Thursday of the problem he might have with an "oddball"
brake setup on his daughter's 1972 Dodge Dart. Below is the full explanation:
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

>Found the new brake drums we needed. The brakes are early production 9
>inch by 2.5 which apparently were used on very few cars. 1972 is different
>than 1971 and 1973. Most 1972 were 10 inch brakes or 10 inch with front
>disk. The 9 inch drum/drum like her car is very odd. A supposed specialty
>supplier told me that no drums are availabe that we should convert to 10
>inch brake...(but that involves changing the rear end and wheels as well
>as the lug pattern because the 10 inch setup is different than the 5 on
>4inch used on the 9 inch). They were maybe correct but Brake Specialists
>in Atlanta found a pair of 9x 2.5 drums for me so this car is set for
>another 100,000 miles or so now. In other words we have no problem any
>more. The rear end noise/vibration she was having turned out to be bad
>U-joints:)  Ted

It's reassuring to know that we don't have such a situation with Corvair
brakes and drums.
