<VV> 1st Car & girls

Both of my teenage kids have driven my (only) Corvair, my daughter only with
authorization and usually with me in the car, and my son under all
circumstances, including without authorization. Neither has run the car into
anything, nor gotten it run into, but my 35-year-old spider gear chose a
drive my son took with the car without authorization, that he tells me was
much shorter than one mile, to disintegrate. Out of the 20,000 miles my
family has put on the Corvair, less than a hundred have been put on by the
kids combined.
Somehow, my feeling about letting them experience the Corvair (as
driver, passenger, and observer) is somewhat like my feeling about having
them get to know their grandparents. I encourage it, for some sort of
"heritage" purposes, I suppose. But I also encourage respect and affection
here.

None of my four kids, the youngest of which is 34 has ever driven any of my
Corvairs nor have they ever asked to do so. They know what the answer would
be. Otherwise, they have dinged up several other pieces but nothing serious
and nothing I owned or was responsible for.
