In 2002, there were 4,315 males in the 16-20 age group fatalities out of a
population of 10,488,000 - for a rate of 41.14 per 1,000. There were 1,962
female fatalities in the same age group out of a population of 9,909,000 -
for a rate of 19.80 per 1,000.

Neither statistic is good, but it looks to me as though the fatality rate
for young males is more than double that of young females.

See Traffic Safety Facts - 2002 edition.
