With all this onboard diagnostics in the OBII from what I have learned is
that just about anything can effect it. It could be your driving habits,
excessive speed, any engine mods, and yes even tire size! Of course more
and more areas are incorporating the OBII into their safety/emissions
regulations. Basically this os for 96 and newer vehicles. So people are
complaining if their car doesn't pass inspection that it is someone elses
fault, anything to get out of having to not fix the problem. How would you
feel if you just shelled out a couple grand for some trick wheels and
tires, and sold off your old ones just to find that your car will not pass
emissions unless you put the old stuff back on and drive it for a few weeks
to get a good driving history back in the computer? Maybe have to put the
old cam back in, original exhaust etc..........
I myself put a replacement motor in my 98 Subaru a couple years ago. Mine
was shot and the replacement motor only had 88 miles on it. Paid 1200 for
the motor, 300 to my brother to put it in. It came out of a stick car and
mine was an automatic. The stick cars didn't have an EGR system, the
automatics did. Ald motor long gone, OBII for inspection in NY now. Check
engine light has been on for 2 years, runs fine gets great mileage. in
about 6 months I have to park it. To put in the EGR system I have to buy
it, including the intake, and left head. I don't think so! Will still be
paying for the car for 2 years, most likely have to part it out.............

Tire dealers are now going to be careful, probably have been notified by
the home office. Most don't even know why, but will only install OEM for
liability sake....................
