Yo Tom,
You are combining apples and oranges. The gear set is standard for a LM 
4-speed at 3.11, 2.20, 1.47, and 1.0. No code for this.

Now if you had a copy of my book, you could decypher the code for yourself. 
R=4-spd
8= production year
M= August
24=24 th day (of Aug)

The other is a partial VIN of your car.
