Hi Ken

Tools such as Adaware and Pest Patrol use signature files, much like
anti-virus products do in order to recognise spyware on your PC. These
signature files need constant updating from their home web site to reflect
the latest and greatest spyware signatures. Weekly updating is usually
sufficient for spyware at this time vs. daily or better for AV software.

The point of my email being that if the signature files aren't current you
are only protected against "yesterday's" spyware or worse - yesterday's
viruses.
