Before there were disks, GM developed for racing some truely gigantic drum 
brakes since they always faded at Sebring. Believe the code was J-56 (from 
memory so no promises) but had a 63 FI Corvette (Warren will remenber) that 
had these. Ventilated backing plates (so you could run cooling hoses to 
them ) and little wheel driven fans inside.

Since most racers probably removed as soon as real disks were available 
('65) and were not often found on street cars (ventilated backing plates 
and a puddle meant no brakes) they probably are quite rare today

Trivia: what corvair part was used to keep racing Corvette brakes cool ?
