  Was why screw-on lock stems without the upper flange were popular in the 
'60s and '70s before B-pillars,  inside hood releases, and locks were moved 
by the inside door handle made such more difficult.

With frameless windows and locks at the rear upper edge of the door you 
hardly needed to bend the dipstick at all.
