Hi,
Ric Norris did a fine radio self-conversion by taking the exterior parts of
a defective AM radio and making the plate hinge complete with the
knobs. This was on a Late V-8 conversion. Behind the hinged faceplate was
a modern radio with CD player. It appeared quite stock until you pulled
down on the radio's knobs. It took a piano hinge and epoxying the
knobs. It did not appear difficult for most of us who are used to carving
things up. Since many defective radios are available for just a few bucks,
most of the cost is the modern radio, which is available for something
around $100 and up, depending upon options and what you want. Heck, with
the hinged front panel going downward, you could install one of those slick
DVD players with the LCD panel that slides out and then upward and show
movies right there in your Vair. You might need to place the radio on a
sliding drawer to move it outward just a little, but that is pretty easy
too. Now THAT would make for a conversation piece!
