<VV> windshield install

I posted this in the Yahoo Corvair Club, but got no answers - so I'll try here.

I am trying to install a new windshield in a '63 with the stainless strips. This is my first attempt to install this type of windshield. The problem I am having is that the strips don't seem to be fully seated in the rubber seal, and the windshield looks like it needs to come down another 1/8 inch (or maybe 3/16 inch) for the top of the seal to drop into place. The strips looked fine when the seal was first placed on the windshield, but now that I've got it started into the windshield opening the bottom looks like it's popped out a little bit (less than ¼ inch). According to the manual (and the instructions that came with the seal), the windshield should drop into place once the inside edge of the rubber is over the pinchweld. Well, I've got that edge over the pinchweld all the way around the opening, but the top does not want to come in all of the way.

Does anyone know of a trick to do this, or am I missing something?

Thanks for any help
Lonny
