       What you say is true for "gasohol", but 100% ethanol has quite a bit 
less energy per gallon or per pound.  Thus ethanol has only 11,500 BTU per 
pound compared to gasoline's 19,000 BTU per pound.  Ethanol also requires 
considerable "richening" of the A/F mixture, since it's stoichiometric A/F ratio is 
only 9.0 to 1 compared to gasoline's 14.6 to 1.  These values are for 100% 
ethanol compared to 100% gasoline.  Obviously properties of "gasohol" (about 10% 
ethanol with 90% gasoline) would be much closer to pure gasoline.
